Head of Brand & Storytelling

The Opportunity

Otter.ai turns conversations into knowledge. Millions of people use our AI meeting assistant to capture, transcribe, and act on what's said in meetings — and we're the category's clearest name-brand product. But "clearest name-brand" and "best-known story" aren't the same thing. As AI note-takers and meeting assistants become table stakes, Otter needs a sharper, more distinctive voice to defend and extend its lead.

We're hiring our first Head of Brand & Storytelling to give Otter.ai that voice. This is a builder's role: you'll bring structure to a brand promise, tone, and identity that reflect our evolution, and you'll turn that foundation into the narratives, media moments, and content that make the case — loudly and credibly — that Otter.ai is the category leader.

You'll own brand strategy end to end, including PR, communications, social, and community. Leading this small team, you'll be in the room defining the brand promise and in the weeds writing the press release, briefing the analysts, and shipping the social post.

Great storytelling requires great storytellers, words are your passion and you feel at the top of your craft. Knowing how and where those words drive impact is your superpower.

Your Impact

Brand strategy & identity:

• Define and codify Otter's brand promise, personality, tone of voice, and verbal identity system. Make sure it's usable, not just aspirational (think brand guidelines people actually open).
• Be the internal source of truth on what Otter sounds and feels like, partnering with product, design, and marketing so the brand shows up consistently everywhere — in-product copy, campaigns, sales decks, support, social.
• Evolve brand positioning as the category shifts from "meeting transcription" to AI-native conversational intelligence, keeping Otter ahead of where the market is going, not just where it's been.
• Own the strategy for brand campaigns, working with our in-house creative team and agencies to increase brand awareness.

Narrative & thought leadership:

• Build the core narratives that position Otter.ai as the category leader. A point of view on the future of voice, turning meetings into action, and AI that's distinct from "another AI notetaker."
• Develop executive thought leadership (bylines, talk tracks, interviews) that puts Otter's leadership in front of the right audiences and outlets.
• Turn product milestones, customer results, and market moments into stories worth covering — not just announcements.
• Work with our partnerships team to develop our brand partnership, including sports and 3P events.

PR, communications, social & community:

• Build out our organic social strategy and execution across channels, with a sharp point of view on which platforms and formats actually move the needle for Otter's audience.
• Build and nurture community — the people who already love Otter — into a channel that reinforces the brand and drives organic advocacy.
• Choose channels based on impact, not habit: know where your audience actually pays attention and put effort there first.
• Expand our PR and comms impact: press strategy, media relationships, announcement planning, and (where useful) agency management.

We're looking for someone who

• Has a love of their craft. You know the power of the brand and have a passion for making yours stand out in a way that drives impact.
• Showcases proven chops in brand, communications, or integrated marketing roles at B2B SaaS companies, ideally including time at a company under ~$500M ARR where you had to be scrappy and hands-on rather than purely strategic.
• Holds a track record of building or substantially sharpening a brand's narrative and voice — not just maintaining one you inherited.
• Can leverage direct experience running PR/comms (media relationships, announcement strategy) and social/community, either as a generalist owner or across multiple prior roles.
• Carries strong writing and editing skills; you can produce a sharp press release, a compelling exec byline, and a scroll-stopping social post yourself.
• Operates with a comfort with ambiguity and a bias to ship: you'd rather put a workable brand framework in front of the team this month than a perfect one next quarter.
• Is ready to own a function end-to-end and is equally comfortable setting the strategy and rolling up their sleeves to build.

Salary range

Salary Range: $250,000 to $280,000 USD per year.

This salary range represents the low and high end of the estimated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for the role is dependent on several factors. Our base salary is just one component of a comprehensive total rewards package.
