Product Designer, Generative Media (Staff-Level / L6)

The role:

We're looking for a Staff (L6) Product Designer to lead design for Synthesia's AI Playground: our dedicated generative-media workspace where users experiment with leading AI models to create video clips, images, and motion graphics, then feed those assets into Synthesia Studio videos.

Playground sits at an intentional crossroad: it's both a creation destination in its own right and a strategic on-ramp that converts experiments into polished videos. The product is evolving rapidly - from a single-format surface into a multi-format creation hub (video, images, motion graphics) with Templates & Apps ahead.

You'll operate as a senior IC: setting direction, influencing roadmap decisions (not just contributing), shaping bets with Product and Engineering leaders and raising the craft bar on how generative tools actually feel.

In practice, this role is about solving generative-media design problems, for example:

• Designing prompt experiences and iteration workflows that make complex AI capabilities feel accessible and powerful - giving users meaningful agency without overwhelming them.
• Balancing discovery across multiple media formats so none feels buried, while scaling for Templates, Apps, and future workflows.
• Designing the invisible handoff between Playground creation and Studio editing - so experiments flow naturally into polished videos.
• Working at the frontier of how generative media changes what "creation" means, where the best patterns are genuinely still being invented.

In this role you will:

• Own Playground's evolution end-to-end: from single-format surface to scalable multi-format creation hub.
• Set design direction for discovery, experimentation, and iteration across all formats. Influence adjacent product areas (Studio, Media Library) to stay coherent.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to define what "great" looks like (principles, quality bar, metrics) and drive toward it.
• Prototype and test interaction models quickly. Know when high-fidelity matters versus learning through Lo-Fi.
• Raise the bar on craft: prompt UX, format balance, iteration workflows, and the feel of creating with AI at speed.

You should apply if you bring:

• Significant experience designing creation tools or generative-media platforms where users explore, iterate, and refine outputs quickly.
• Strong craft in interaction and visual design. A track record of shipping delightful experiences around complex workflows.
• Deep comfort designing around AI model constraints. You design UX that works with constraints, not around them.
• Systems thinking. You can hold the tension between Playground as a destination and as an on-ramp to Studio.
• Experience designing multi-format products. You know how to give equal weight to different experiences and scale beyond an initial, focused surface.
• Excellent communication in design reviews and cross-functional tradeoffs between user delight and business goals.
• A track record of tackling novel problems in fast-moving generative-media spaces and turning early-stage bets into scalable platforms.
• The ability to leverage feedback from users and customers to ensure the product continues to meet real needs - from SMBs shipping quick marketing videos through to Enterprise teams producing at scale.
